Made from 100% recycled fibers. Certified Organic by Natural Food Certifiers. Farm news. Hubbardston, MA 2016 (978) 928-5333. Quality control collector's series. Part two. Feed and mill: One of the biggest factors contributing to the exceptional taste, whites that don't run, richly colored, stand-up yolks, sturdy shells, and unique nutritional quality of The Country Hen's Organic Eggs is our proprietary blend of feed that we mill on site for our feathered friends. Our Founder, George Bass, worked together with the help of a team of veterinarians, nutrition specialists, and scientists to develop organic feed formulas, specific to each stage of a hen's development. This provides our little ladies the very best nutrition which enables them to provide us with eggs that have a much higher nutritional value, including very impressive amounts of all three types of Omega-3s, Choline, Lutein, Zeaxanthin and Vitamin D. We operate our own mill: Operating our own feed mill allows us to respond quickly to the nutritional needs of our hens. Our managers meet once a week to review current conditions and reports. Then they pick and sometimes modify the formula to best meet the current requirements of each flock. Our feed is milled fresh daily and delivered to the hens. TCH feed is only used for TCH hens and, although people have asked it cannot be purchased. Leaving nothing to chance: The TCH mill team consists of Brian and Miguel, and they are responsible for all aspects of TCH's non-GMO and certified organic feed. Brian, our meticulous Mill Manager, leaves nothing to chance. I often refer to him as our "Resident Professor of Feedology," as he practices some very remarkable quality assurance protocols that begin with acquiring the organic feed ingredients. Brian always strives to support farmers and suppliers from the region. Then, quality assurance is taken up another notch. Brian is responsible for receiving the ingredients that will be used in the feed. He measures the moisture and weight per bushel as a means of determining that grain's particular nutrient content. He conducts a visual examination of the grains and even samples them himself to make sure they meet his exacting quality standards. If the ingredient does not measure up, the whole load is rejected. Brian also sends samples of our feed out to independent laboratories to be tested regularly. Testing of the finished feed determines the amount of protein, fat, moisture, fiber, calcium, phosphorous and sodium. Lab testing of eggs: Brian is also responsible for sending our eggs out to independent laboratories for routine testing to be certain we always meet or exceed claimed levels on the packaging: 300mg of omega-3s (DHA, EPA, ALA), 550mg lutein & zeaxanthin, 125 IU Vitamin D, and 160mg choline.
