This wine owes its name to the fifteenth-century Castello Quadrio di Chiruro (headquarters of the Nino Negri cellars) which belonged to Stefano Quadrio, governor of the Valtellina in the 15th century. The grapes, 90% Nebbiolo, locally called Chiavennasca, 10% merlot, come from the best parcels of the Valtellina Superiore. The wine matured for about 20 months in 80 hl Slavonian oak vats in cellars of the Castello Quadrio. Valtellina Superiore. Alc. 13% by vol. 26 Product of Italy.
